ECC Ediciones publishes A Woman of the Showa Era of the renowned author Kazuo Kamimura.
After the success of The Divorce Club, winner of the Heritage Award of the International Festival of the Bande Dessinée de Angoulême 2017, nominated for the best foreign work prize at the Barcelona International Comic Fair 2018 and included by the Association of Critics and Disclosers of Comic of Spain (ACDCómic) in its list of essentials of 2017, it's time to enjoy another classic Kazuo Kamimura: A woman of the Shôwa era (1977), in which Kamimura formed a creative team with screenwriter Ikki Kajiwara (Ashita no Joe, Tiger Mask). Together, they told the story of Shôko Takano, daughter of one of the most beautiful geisha in the Yanagibashi neighborhood and a political opponent. Orphaned from an early age and marked by the repression and bombings that ravaged Tokyo during World War II, Shôko will have to learn to survive on his own in post-war Japan, going through harsh trances that will forge his character.
Kazuo Kamimura (Yokosuka, Japan, 1940-1986) was known as "the ukiyo-e painter of the Showa era" because of his elegant stroke. Master of Jirô Taniguchi, signed titles such as Lady Snowblood, Story of a Geisha or The Divorce Club. An unrepeatable author whose premature death deprived the medium of one of his most talented and sensitive cartoonists.
