Synopsis of Volume 28 of Vinland Saga

Defying the strict Viking laws and despite being a great warrior, Thors decides to flee his bloody life with his family. Once discovered, he is pursued during his sea voyage by a mercenary named Askeladd and ultimately falls into an ambush with his expedition. He wins the battle against his attackers, but at a high cost: Thors sacrifices his life so the rest of the crew, including his son Thorfinn, can live.

From that moment on, Thorfinn vows to take revenge. However, he is captured by Askeladd and forced to join his ship. But there is still hope. According to the Viking code, Thorfinn has the right to challenge Askeladd to a duel if he completes a series of difficult tasks, such as sabotaging or killing enemy generals—tasks that will lead them to become involved in the war for the English crown.
