Synopsis of Volume 01 of Evangelion

In an alternate timeline where Shinji Ikari managed to stop the Human Instrumentality Project, humanity has moved forward while attempting to rebuild what was lost. Years later, Nerv has been reorganized as “Nerv Japan,” now commanded by Misato Katsuragi. Under her leadership, the former child pilots—now seventeen years old—continue their training as they prepare for the inevitable return of the Angels. However, everything is once again shaken when Rei No. Four, one of the multiple Rei units that form the global anti-Angel network, suddenly goes out of control during a catastrophic incident.
