Synopsis of the Standalone Volume of Mr Joker

A mysterious figure spreads a deck of cards. There are fifty-two black cards. On them, represented, are all the terrors that the human heart harbors. Knives, mirrors, clocks, rats, and worms. An infamous collection of crimes signed by the prestidigitator of terror, the extravagant Hideshi Hino. You will remember these stories when you are in hell! Hideshi Hino was born in Manchuria in 1946, but soon moved to Tokyo with his mother, where the postwar climate would deeply influence his childhood and decide his future work. Hino also recalls being greatly affected in his youth by Seppuku, the fascinating film by Masaki Kobayashi about bushido and the practice of harakiri, so much so that he began to seriously consider becoming a film director. In the 1980s, he directed two entries in the cult ultra-gore series Guinea Pig (one of which caused an international scandal when it was mistaken for a real snuff movie), but as a storyteller, he made his debut in the manga language in the late 60s, encouraged by the admiration that his schoolmates had for his drawings. Today, with essential titles in his bibliography such as The Red Snake, The Worm Child, Circus of Monsters, Cursed Creature, Infernal Panorama, Zoroku’s Disease, Onimbo, The Devil’s Son, Nights of Zipango, Gallery of Horrors, and Stories of the Mask, he confesses to having killed his father at least three times in his comics, and no one doubts considering him the most unusual and influential living author in the horror comics genre.
